Welcome to the Oak Brook Police Department homepage. My name is James Kruger and I have the honor of serving as Chief of Police for the Village of Oak Brook since November of 2011. The Oak Brook Police Department is comprised of forty-one full time sworn, ten non-sworn, and ten sworn auxiliary members dedicated to providing the very best law enforcement services to our community. The Oak Brook Police Department is a national and state accredited police department through The Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies and the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
The Oak Brook Police Department is staffed by highly trained professionals who are committed to a community oriented policing philosophy. We pride ourselves on the high level of service we provide all of our stakeholders. As a community policing strategy, the Police Department utilizes the
Homeowners’ Association Liaison Officer’s Program or HALO for short. HALO is a collaborative effort between the Police Department and the twenty-seven separate homeowners associations that make up the residential portion of Oak Brook. Officers are assigned to each homeowner’s association and serve as a primary conduit of information between the Police Department and the residents.
The Village of Oak Brook is a full service community located on the eastern DuPage County border along the I-88 Reagan Memorial Tollway Corridor. We are home to Oakbrook Center, the second largest shopping mall in Illinois, The HUB Group, Ace Hardware Corporate Headquarters, the Chamberlin Group Corporate Headquarters, as well as numerous other international and national corporations, retail establishments and restaurants. The Police Department partners with these organizations to provide up to date crisis training and collaborative efforts to insure the safety of residents, workers, and visitors.
Along with our community policing efforts, the Oak Brook Police Department’s Support Services Division works closely with area schools and park district, and provides DARE, Alive at 25, a community speaker’s bureau and security surveys for both residential and commercial properties. We also hold an annual Citizen Police Academy, a quarterly Coffee with a Cop program and National Night Out. The Investigations Unit is comprised of five general case Detectives and a Detective Sergeant that investigate nearly 600 Part 1 offenses per year.
Please take a few moments and explore our website. I believe you will see that we continue to strive to live up to our organizational values of Loyalty, Honor and Teamwork.
