JOB SUMMARY:

The Oak Brook Police Department is currently seeking up to ten Auxiliary Police Officers. Auxiliary Police Officers will be assigned traffic control duties, assist in special events, assist full time police officers, and work outside special details when available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDING, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Auxiliary Police Officers will be expected to be available for major Village sponsored events especially Taste of Oak Brook and the Oak Brook Half Marathon. Auxiliary Police Officers will be armed, conservators of the peace with full arrest powers only when on duty. Uniforms and equipment will be provided except for bullet resistant vests. It is anticipated that there will be an opportunity for regular hours to staff a reoccurring traffic detail on a weekly basis throughout the year. Auxiliary police officers will be required to attend mandatory in-service training and one annual meeting per year for no pay.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Only those who graduated from a Full Time basic training academy and eligible for a waiver of training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board may apply.
  • Retired or separated in good standing from an Illinois law enforcement agency.
  • Valid Illinois driver's license
  • Valid Illinois Firearms Owner Identification Card
  • United States Citizen
  • High school graduate or General Education Development (GED)

SELECTION:

Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to a background and criminal history investigation, medical exam, psychological exam, polygraph exam and drug screen.
